Penn State's Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) allows students to explore academic programs before choosing their academic college or major.

More than 80% of Penn State first-year students come to school uncertain about their major. Penn State offers time to decide since most students don't have to officially declare their major until the end of their sophomore year.

If you know you want to study one of a few majors that all fall inside one of our academic colleges, like science or education, but aren't sure about a specific major, you can enroll in that college and work with an adviser to decide on a major. If you are considering a variety of majors in different academic colleges, you will want to enroll in the Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), which advises students who are considering majors in different colleges.

In DUS, we have professional advisers who know about all Penn State academic programs and are dedicated to helping students.

From DUS, you would be allowed to move into any academic college as long as you meet the academic requirements to do so.
