Requirements by Associate Degree Program

The following charts outline the minimum course requirements for Penn State’s associate degrees. The charts outline units of study, which in most high school curricula is equal to one year of work.

All Engineering Technology programs
Information Sciences and Technology
Radiological Sciences
Science
Surveying Technology
Telecommunications Technology
English 4 units, including one unit each in composition and literature
Social Studies/Art/Humanities/World Language 5 units in any combination of social studies, arts, humanities, or world language
Science 2 units
Math 2 units, including 1 unit of algebra and 1 unit in advanced algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, or trigonometry

 

Degree Requirements for the Following Programs:

Agricultural Business
Criminal Justice
Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management
Human Development and Family Studies
Letters, Arts, and Sciences
Occupational Therapy
English 4 units, including one unit each in composition and literature
Social Studies/Art/Humanities/World Language 5 units in any combination of social studies, arts, humanities, or world language
Science 2 units
Math 2 units, including any combination of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or general mathematics

 

Degree Requirements for the Following Programs:

Business Administration
Forest Technology
Manufacturing Technology
Wildlife Technology
English 4 units, including one unit each in composition and literature
Social Studies/Art/Humanities/World Language 5 units in any combination of social studies, arts, humanities, or world language
Science 2 units
Math 2 units, including 1 unit of algebra and 1 additional unit in mathematics (plane geometry is recommended)

 

Degree Requirements for the Following Programs:
Subject Minimum Units Required for:

Medical Laboratory Assistant
Physical Therapy Assistant
English 4 units, including one unit each in composition and literature
Social Studies/Art/Humanities/World Language 5 units in any combination of social studies, arts, humanities, or world language
Science 2 units
Medical Laboratory: 1 unit of each in biology and chemistry is recommended
Physical Therapy: 1 unit in biology and 1 other unit is recommended
Math 2 units, including 1 unit of algebra and 1 unit in advanced algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, or trigonometry
