Learn about the admissions requirements for those students that are classified as adult learners.

Required Application Materials

The following materials are required for all adult learner and military/veteran student applications:

Application and Fee:

You can access the online application via MyPennState, and at the point of application submission, pay the non-refundable application fee. Review the Steps to Apply for all application-related information.

Official high school Record (and/or GED, if applicable)

In order to be considered official, transcripts must be sent from the high school (or GED testing service) directly to Penn State.

First-year Applicants:

First-year applicants will be asked to complete a Self-reported Academic Record (SRAR) as part of the application process. Adult learners are not required to submit high school and/or GED transcripts at the time of application to Penn State, nor when accepting offers of admission.

Transfer Applicants:

Adult learners are not required to submit high school and/or GED transcripts at the time of application to Penn State, nor when accepting offers of admission. However, transfer applicants who have graduated high school outside the US must submit official high school transcripts as part of their application to Penn State.

University/College Transcripts (if applicable):

Penn State requires applicants that have taken any college credits after high school to submit official transcripts from all colleges where coursework was attempted. All transcripts must be sent directly from the college/university (educational institution of origin) to Penn State to be considered official. If applicable, please submit your current class schedule.

Please note: Penn State does not require SAT or ACT scores for adult applicants, provided the applicant can be considered an adult learner.

Additional Admissions Requirements by Applicant Type

Transfer Students

Students who have taken 18 or more credits after high school graduation are considered transfer students. In addition to the application materials listed above, transfer students may have to meet additional requirements for their intended program of study.

To review any additional admissions requirements, please visit the transfer student section of the website.

Military Students and Veteran Students

Military/veteran students do not have any additional admissions requirements they need to fulfill other than the requirements for their applicant type (first-year, transfer, etc.).

Penn State does not require military transcripts as part of the application evaluation, but if accepted, applicants may receive Penn State credit for work reflected on these transcripts. For this reason, we highly recommend that you submit your military transcript for credit evaluation. Review the documents that Penn State requires in order to award credit for military experience.

International Students

In addition to the application requirements listed above, international students whose native language is not English must prove English language proficiency for admission to Penn State. Please review our information for international students for admissions requirements.
