To be considered for student aid, all Penn State students must complete the U.S. Department of Education Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA).
Step 1
We recommend that you complete the FAFSA on the Web because it is fast, easy, secure, and less error-prone than submitting a paper application.
- Before completing the FAFSA on the Web, you and your parent (if applicable) will need a Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN will allow you to electronically sign the FAFSA on the Web. You can register for a PIN at the Federal PIN website.
- We recommend that you submit your FAFSA on the Web by February 15 for maximum consideration of all student financial aid programs. You may submit it after February 15, but completing the FAFSA early ensures your results reach Penn State in time for full consideration of all aid programs. Students who apply by February 15 will receive their student financial aid award notification in mid-to-late March.
- Complete your federal income tax return(s) for you and your parents (if applicable) before submitting the FAFSA on the Web.
If necessary, use estimated tax information to complete the FAFSA by the recommended completion date of February 15.
- Remember to use Penn State's Federal School Code-----003329 for all Penn State campuses----where requested on the FAFSA to ensure your FAFSA information reaches Penn State.
Please note: If you have been offered summer admission to Penn State and would like to apply for student financial aid, you will also need to review Next Steps to Summer Aid For First-Year Students.
