College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)

CAMP is a federally funded program designed to assist first-year college students from migrant and seasonal farm worker families pursue higher education.

Established nationally in 1972, CAMP has been working with students at Penn State since 1993. CAMP offers pre-college transition and first-year assistance to help students develop the skills necessary to insure continued enrollment and eventual graduation. In addition, the program provides support services to satisfy the educational and personal needs of each participant.

While enrolled as full-time students, all CAMP participants receive the following:

  • limited assistance with academic and personal counseling,
  • access to tutoring and University Learning Centers,
  • tuition grant to supplement financial aid from state or federal sources (assists with direct costs while student makes satisfactory academic progress),
  • weekly stipend,
  • limited reimbursement for round-trip travel to the University twice a year,
  • limited assistance for purchasing books,
  • educational and cultural programs,
  • peer, faculty and staff support in adjusting to the University, and
  • an orientation to University services that provide support throughout their college career.
