Penn State Mont Alto is one of the oldest Penn State campuses outside of Penn State University Park. 

You may want to take a look at Penn State Mont Alto's historic Emmanuel Chapel, our newly renovated Wiestling Student Center, and the Mill Café--the hub of student life on campus.

Founded in 1903 and located in southcentral Pennsylvania, Penn State Mont Alto is just 30 minutes from historic Gettysburg and 90 minutes from our nation’s Capitol.  Our 91-acre residential campus is nestled aside the Michaux State Forest and offers our student body of over 1,000 the "ultimate college experience!"

Housing Information:

Penn State Mont Alto provides university-operated residence halls for 438 students on campus. There are more than 1,200 students enrolled at Penn State Mont Alto.
Driving Directions

From Harrisburg and North

Follow Interstate 81 South to Scotland (Exit 20). Turn left onto Route 997 South. At the intersection of Routes 997 and 30 (traffic light), make a right and then an immediate left (traffic light) back onto Route 997 South. Proceed five miles to Mont Alto. At the Mont Alto Square, turn left onto Route 233 North (Park Street). The campus is approximately 1/3 mile on the left.

From Gettysburg and East

Take Route 30 West through Gettysburg approximately 17 miles to Route 997 South. Turn left at second light, proceed five miles to Mont Alto. At the Mont Alto Square, turn left onto Route 233 North. The campus is approximately 1/3 mile on the left.

From Hagerstown and South

Follow I-81 North to Greencastle (Exit 5). Turn right onto Route 16 East. Follow 16 East to Waynesboro. At the square in Waynesboro, make a left onto Route 997 North. Go approximately six miles until you reach Mont Alto. At the square in Mont Alto, turn right onto Route 233 North. The campus is approximately 1/3 mile on the left.

From Pittsburgh and West

Use Pennsylvania Turnpike Exit 15 (Blue Mountain). Take Route 997 South through Roxbury and Scotland. At the intersection of Routes 997 and 30 (traffic light), make a right and then an immediate left (traffic light) back onto Route 997 South. Proceed five miles to Mont Alto. At the Mont Alto Square, turn left onto Route 233 North (Park Street). The campus is approximately 1/3 mile on the left.

From Washington and Baltimore

Travel via I-70 to Route I-81 North. Follow Hagerstown directions above. From Philadelphia and East Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 16 (Carlisle). Follow signs to I-81 South (Chambersburg). Follow I-81 South to Scotland (Exit 20). Turn left onto Route 997 South. At the intersection of Routes 997 and 30 (traffic light), make a right and then an immediate left (traffic light) back onto Route 997 South. Proceed five miles to Mont Alto. At the Mont Alto Square, turn left onto Route 233 North (Park Street). The campus is approximately 1/3 mile on the left.
