As a budding entrepreneur, Nick Unis is no stranger to setbacks. But, for every business challenge, Penn State has offered an opportunity. Unis is enrolled as a 2+2 student, starting at Penn State Altoona and is now finishing his degree as an accounting student in the Smeal College of Business at University Park. Leveraging his academic experience, Penn State’s network of expertise and entrepreneurial ecosystem, Unis is ready to take his prototype for custom, 3D printed footwear and turn it into a product.
As a business major, Unis has been exposed to entrepreneurship, accounting, management and marketing. Outside of the classroom, he refined his business plan through the Pechter Business Plan Competition at Penn State Altoona, receiving advice from judges appearing on the television show “Shark Tank.” Now, part of the FastTrack Accelerator Program through Happy Valley LaunchBox powered by PNC Bank, Unis has the incubator space to perfect the printing process and materials for his shoes. With the help of student engineers in Penn State’s Learning Factory, he is ensuring his product is up to par with the competition.
Nick’s Penn State story has been one of innovation and creativity.
