Ag Sciences Research and Laboratory Facility Tours (Departmental Information Session & Tours)
Animal Science Research Tour (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Students interested in a career in animal biology, veterinary medicine, and production agriculture will have the opportunity to tour research laboratories and learn about the science behind animal health, welfare, and production. Students will learn about opportunities for undergraduate research in cellular and molecular biology, reproductive physiology, nutrition, genetics, and food quality/safety.

Campus Walking Tour (Walking Tour)

Departs from the lobby of the Forest Resources Building. Tour will focus on the Ag Hill part of campus, and include visits to Earth House, the College of Agricultural Sciences residential community.

Food Science Facilities Tour (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Get to know the home of the Berkey Creamery and the Department of Food Sciences. This building features state-of-the-art research and teaching labs, three specialized and dedicated pilot plants, and one of the largest, most sophisticated dairy manufacturing plants associated with any academic institution in the country.

Greenhouses and Plant Growth Facilities Tour (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Explore the Department of Plant Science's teaching and research greenhouse facilities. You will learn about the tropical plant collection and our cacao and tomato genetics research program. Visitors will also learn about the sustainable integrated pest management (IPM) strategies that are implemented in the greenhouses. Our unique aquaponics project, which combines the art and science of raising fish and growing plants in a symbiotic system, will also be featured.

The Arboretum at Penn State (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Dr. Steiner, professor of forest biology and founding director of the Arboretum, will discuss opportunities for undergraduate involvement with Arboretum projects, including woodlot renovation, prairie reconstruction, campus garden and tree crew internships, and the planned Pollinators’ Garden, as well as undergraduate student participation in his personal research on State Forest lands.

Departs from atrium of the Forest Resources Building; group will walk to the Arboretum.

Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Tour (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Tour an immunology lab, and get answers to your questions about veterinary schools and biomedical research.

Wildlife and Fisheries Research Labs (Departmental Information Session & Tours)

Tour a wildlife research lab that examines the stress of wild animals. Learn about bridging physiology, behavior, and ecology to understand how animals interact with the world around them. Tour a fish behavior research lab to see how fish can be tested to investigate their resilience to environmental stressors. Tours will be directed by Dr. Michael Sheriff, assistant professor of mammalogy and ecology, and Dr. Victoria Braithwaite, professor of fisheries and biology.

Departs from atrium of the Forest Resources Building and will tour labs in the building. 

2:30 PM - 4:30 PM:

The shuttle bus will board at 2:30 p.m. on Curtin Road at pull-off alongside the Agricultural Administration Bullding and depart at 2:45 p.m. for the college's equine facility.

Large Animal Facilities Tour (Facilities Tour)

The Shuttle bus will board at 2:30 p.m. on Curtin Road at pull-off alongside the Agricultural Administration Building and depart at 2:45 p.m. for the Dairy Education and Research Center, Beef-Sheep Center, and Poultry Research and Education Center.

Mushroom Research Facility Tour (Facilities Tour)

Pennsylvania is home to 63 percent of the fresh mushrooms grown in the United States - and the Penn State Mushroom Research Center is an important part of the work being done to grow, manage, and harvest this very sensitive crop. Learn more about the science behind growing mushrooms and the work Penn State faculty staff and students are doing to support our mushroom community and consumers.

Student Farm Tour (Facilities Tour)

Established in spring 2016, the goals of the Student Farm at Penn State are to demonstrate and educate about how food is grown, and to provide hands-on engagement opportunities for students and volunteers to gain skills and knowledge about food production, harvest and marketing.

Above all, the farm is a space for people with a diversity of backgrounds and interests to learn about where our food comes from, as well as to apply their unique skills and experiences to a farm setting. Students studying topics from communications, to marketing, architecture, and more can find exciting ways to contribute to the farm.

In case of inclement weather the tour will be at Tyson greenhouses to look at our hydroponic production
