You can also use MyPennState to check the status of your application once you've submitted it.

If you join us here at Penn State, your Friends of Penn State (FPS) ID will become the ID you use to check your email, schedule classes, and use computers on campus, among many other services.

2. Pay attention to important application dates.

Penn State’s application for summer and fall admission becomes available each year on September 1. Additionally, some programs require the submission of a complete application by a specific deadline. Please refer to our Dates & Deadlines for more information about application submission and refer to the information below.

International students:

A few of our programs also have other specific due dates or admission requirements: for example, complete applications for the Accelerated Premedical-Medical program are required by November 30.

Be sure that you've completed our basic admissions requirements by the above referenced dates. You can check your status within MyPennState to see which items we might be missing from you.

3. Start your application online.

Inside MyPennState, click "Apply Online" to start your application. If you would like to see the application before you begin, view the Applying on the Web Worksheet.

As part of your online application, we will ask you to select a starting campus and ending campus, as well as an alternate choice starting campus. Selecting these campuses provides you with an additional review of your application if we are not able to admit you to your first choice campus and gives you the greatest chance at joining the Penn State family. Often this allows you to participate in our 2+2 plan, where you spend two years at one campus then transition to another to complete your degree.

At the end of your application, we will ask you to print out a counselor form. You should take this form to your high school counselor to complete and send to us along with your official high school transcript. (This form is waived if you are an adult student.)

International students will be asked to complete an international counselor form.

You must have your standardized test scores sent to us directly from the testing agency. We accept the SAT (code #2660) or the ACT (code #3656). Please note: We require the writing component for the ACT and do not accept the test results without a writing score. Additionally, we do not require the SAT Subject Tests.

We do not require letters of recommendation.

4. Complete your online application.

The application requires a non refundable application fee of $50 for domestic students and $65 for international students. Be sure to complete the last step, after "Summary and Review," which finalizes payment of your fee, and be certain it is successfully submitted. You can check the status of your application by accessing your MyPennState profile.

5. Check your status.

If we are missing any materials to complete your application package, we will notify you via the status check on MyPennState. It is your responsibility to check on the status of your application and send us any missing materials.

6. Receive our decision on your application through MyPennState.

Once your application is complete and we have made a decision, you will be able to view the decision online through MyPennState. More information will also be sent via U.S. mail. Decisions for academic programs that include an audition, interview, or portfolio may require a longer review period.
