Penn State Altoona

Penn State Altoona’s 150-acre campus is nestled in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania, two hours east of Pittsburgh, two hours north of Harrisburg, and an hour west of State College, home to Penn State’s University Park campus.

The campus offers students the appeal of a small, private college with the name recognition of a major research university. From the moment students arrive on campus, they notice something special about Penn State Altoona. It might be the groves of mature shade trees that greet them as they walk across campus or the beautiful reflecting pond with the student center at one end and a picturesque all-faiths chapel at the other. These special touches have drawn a diverse student body, including international students who have access to special services to meet their needs.

    Adult Learners/Veterans

Penn State defines an adult learner applicant as those who meet one or more of the following criteria: 24 years of age or older; a veteran of the armed service; returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; a person who assumes multiple adult roles such as parent, spouse/partner, employee, and student.

Applicants who meet the definition of veteran are considered adult learners in the application process.  A veteran is defined as a former member of the Armed Forces of the United States (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard) who served on active duty and was discharged under conditions, which were other than dishonorable. There is no minimum number of days a student must have served on active duty to be considered a veteran.
