Biomedical engineers design and develop solutions for biological and medical problems. Biomedical Engineering (previously named Bioengineering) is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes integration of engineering principles with the life sciences. Biomedical engineers develop new medical devices, design diagnostic and therapeutic tools, and model physiological systems. Students choose one of four options to determine advanced coursework: Biochemical, Biomaterials, Biomechanics, or Medical Imaging and Devices. Graduates have a wide variety of career options either working in the health care or pharmaceutical industries, or pursuing further studies in medicine or the engineering sciences.
