This page provides information on transfer courses that have multiple attributes or have been designated as satisfying Inter-Domain criteria for multiple Knowledge Domains. Inter-Domain courses each demonstrate how two Knowledge Domains speak to one another and how knowledge in one Domain relates to knowledge in another.
In 2015, Faculty Senate added the Integrative Studies requirement to baccalaureate degrees, effective Summer 2018. This requirement is most commonly completed with Inter-Domain courses.
An Inter-Domain course integrates and meets the criteria of two Knowledge Domains (Arts - GA, Humanities - GH, Health and Wellness - GHW, Natural Sciences - GN, Social and Behavioral Science - GS).
Additional Inter-Domain course details can be found on the Penn State Undergraduate Bulletin.
Transfer Credit Designations for Multiple Attribute and Inter-Domain Courses
This chart defines transfer credit that has been designated as satisfying Inter-Domain criteria for multiple Knowledge Domains . Transfer credit that may be assigned multiple designations, but does not meet the criteria of Inter-Domain are identified with two asterisks symbol (such as the US and International Cultures courses, which are required for a student's degree)
All transfer course designations will include the XFR prefix, followed by alpha characters indicating a Gen. Ed. Designation, and/or course level (0-4).

Please be advised that a student’s tuition will increase when the Penn State transcript reflects 59.1 total credits. Credits earned from sources such as Military Credit and tests, like AP or IB exams, are considered transfer credits and are included in the cumulative credit total. If the credits you are transferring or have transferred to Penn State place you above 59.1 total credits after the start of the semester, your tuition will increase immediately. You will receive a bill for the additional tuition on the first day of the following month. For more information, visit the Office of the Bursar's website.
